How much does a Logo cost?
It’s hard to give it a price really as there are many important variables to take into consideration such as, the designers experience, the turnaround time, the need for any possible revisions on the logo, who the client is, and finally where that client lives and how this would affect the overall price.
An important point to note is that the logo produced is the face of your business, so there is a definite argument for paying a good experienced designer, over your friend who can do it on the cheap, but may not produce the required result.
If you’re thinking of hiring a designer based on price alone, then be aware that you often do get what you pay for.
As we know in life, there is always someone who can produce something cheaper for you, but is it really worth saving money and possibly losing out on quality for this. It’s like paying for a steak which most people now know that you really do get what you pay for, if you pay the extra for a good cut of meat it is well worth it when you have a lovely dinner to eat, vs a cheaper cut that you have to eat for the sake of it, which then leaves you moaning about it all the way home.
How much are Revisions and Changes?
Typically speaking most designers will give you one round of changes after a specific design route has been chosen and the outcome has been presented. After this you may have to expect to pay a fee, which is normally based on the designer’s hourly rate. If a design has got to the point where it’s been signed off then the same hourly rate charges may follow. That being said a designer should ensure feedback is received from the client, to allow for any changes the client would like made before the signing off has been completed.
What is your Process?
Everyone’s process is slightly different as you would expect. So, let me tell you mine, I would meet, call, email you to find out about the brand itself first and foremost, and the project behind the new logo and exactly what it is you as a client would want doing. I would then move onto ideas, this can take place a vast range of ways from me drawing some rough sketches, creating mood boards, mind mapping, and coming up with word association, to create a logo that matches the ideas behind the overall brand. This step can be done in the following ways, either with the client directly or with the discovery call in mind, where we can both talk about possible options together. From here I would take the route to the computer and bring the ideas to life. I would then send the client a little presentation, to gather as much feedback as possible, this is where any changes and revisions to the logo can be suggested, and then catered for accordingly. Once the logo has been agreed if it was more than just this you were after we can then build a brand around the newly designed face of your business, from your branded stationary, to social media, making sure the brand identity feels consistent and encouraging at all times.
So, from one short call, to the ideation stage, to a more detailed route, to the digital copy, it is then brought to life where you are then left with a fully designed brand.
How long will it take?
From a personal perspective, I would allow 2-3 weeks, this allows for detailed feedback, changes to be made, and most importantly proper thinking time. If a shorter deadline needs to be met then we can definitely discuss this, but this would typically mean an added cost too. The longer spent on the logo in theory allows for as many options as possible to be explored and different routes to have carefully been thought about.
Can we have it in a word document?
Simply speaking yes, but not as the master file. I can put it in word for you if you intend to use it in word. However, for other use we will give you SVGs, PDFs, vector files for large format work, and SVGs, and PNGs for digital use only, this is all about optimising the quality for your use. A top tip would be to use the vector file for as much as possible, this will make sure the quality is kept.
To sum up it’s all about finding a balance of money, deadlines, and most importantly letting ideas flow so the best possible design can be created.
